Artist Biography:

Kathleen has had a passion for art from a very young age.  As an adult everything started to fall into place. As a young artist, Kathleen struggled to find a shop to display her art, as most places shied away from consignment, and mostly bought wholesale from overseas. So, along with her husband, they decided to open a gallery in their own small town. “What a wonderful way to support our Manitoba artists”.

In 2015 they made the decision to open a gallery in Souris. Word spread like wildfire, as Kathleen was already established as an art teacher in her home. Kathleen rented a small space uptown for a year and a half. She ran out of room very quickly, with 15-20 artists and between 50-100 students as part of the gallery the following spring. A few months later, Robert and Kathleen decided it was time to purchase a much larger space across the street, and the gallery took on a life of its own.

Lagasse’s Studio of Fine Art now has now close to 70 members, with over 1000 students visiting Souris to take one of her many classes. Kathleen also travels to other communities to teach - Cypress River, Hartney, Deloraine, Killarney, Cartwright, Wawanesa, McGregor, Waskada, Virden, Boissevain, and Brandon.

The Gallery Members are from all corners of the province; Gilam, Flin Flon, Minnedosa, Swan Lake, Swan River, Brandon, Winnipeg, Selkirk, Portage, Elgin, and of course Souris. Pottery, sculptures, jewelry, wood carvings, furniture, weaves and original paintings are some of the treasures you will find in the gallery. Kathleen makes it a rule to meet all of her artists as often as they like, especially when they are eager to bring in something new they have just created. This is what keeps the gallery looking new and exciting.

In 2016 Kathleen was nominated as a “Woman of Distinction” in Brandon, “what an honour to be amongst such wonderful beautiful ladies”. She is currently working on new and exciting pieces with exciting mediums: resins, alcohol inks, oils and acrylics. And she always has a custom order waiting to be created.
